Available Varicose Vein Treatments

The following varicose vein treatments are administered by Dr Cody Fitzgerald and his team:

Medical & Cosmetic Scleroth: As the name suggests, this treatment involves a sclerosant solution being injected into the vein. This can help to irritate the vein wall and cause it to close. Repeat treatments are occasionally required to increase the chance of lasting success.

Surgical Treatment: Large Varicose Veins are usually best treated using surgical methods. Dr Fitzgerald does these surgical procedures in Hospital.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What causes varicose veins?

There are many causes of varicose veins, but the most common is simply genetics. If your family has a history of varicose veins, then you are more likely to develop them as well. Other causes include obesity, pregnancy and standing or sitting for long periods of time. While these things can increase your chances of developing varicose veins, they are not the only factors.

Varicose veins occurs when the valves in your veins stop working properly. These valves are responsible for keeping blood flowing in the right direction, from your heart to the rest of your body. • What can occur if varicose veins are left untreated?

The majority of Varicose Veins do not become complicated or cause major problems  if left untreated. There are some rare complications which may occur.  Dr Fitzgerald  assesses the risk of these complications on an individual basis and discusses these fully at your initial consultation.

  • Is sclerotherapy a painful procedure?

Sclerotherapy is not a painful procedure, but you may feel some discomfort during the injections. Most people report feeling only a minor sting when the needle enters the skin. Once the solution is injected, you may feel a cramping sensation that lasts for a few minutes. This is normal and will subside as the solution takes effect. Some people also experience temporary bruising or swelling after sclerotherapy, but this usually goes away within a few days.
